Campos to name drivers after season

Campos Grand Prix now expects to wait until after the season has finished to announce the drivers for its debut campaign in Formula 1

Although the team's plans are moving forward, with a recent FIA visit confirming that it is on course with its preparations for 2010, team principal Adrian Campos has said there will be no rush to finalise who will race for it.

"We want to have the drivers decided as soon as possible, but not before the middle of November," Campos told AUTOSPORT. "We have many things to do.

"We have to put together the sponsors, the interest and the nationalities of the drivers. There are many things that we expect - to have the entry and then quickly sign the drivers.

"But it is not easy because the nationalities of the drivers are very important regarding the repercussions in every country - for the sponsors and many things. There are many things that we have to take care of."

Campos said it was not mandatory that his team takes a Spanish driver next year, but said he would prefer it - with current McLaren tester Pedro de la Rosa top of his list of candidates.

"He is our first choice," Campos said of de la Rosa. "So it will be him or Marc Gene, but we have to wait and see what happens in the next two or three weeks about the drivers."

Campos will compete with Cosworth engines next year and its membership of the Formula One Teams' Association has now been confirmed. Its new car is expected to run for the first time in late January.

He added: "Everything is going like we originally decided. Sometimes there are difficult moments because you have to start from zero to develop everything. But, at the moment everything is okay, and we are going ahead in our programme like we expected. We will be in the first race, for sure."
