Alonso targets podium in Singapore

Fernando Alonso says he is aiming to fight for an elusive first podium finish of the season at this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix

The Spaniard, the controversial winner of Formula 1's first night race last year, arrives in Singapore following the race-fixing scandal involving his Renault team.

After having finished in fifth place in the previous race at Monza, Alonso is again setting his sight on the podium.

"The car is working well at most circuits so I believe we are competitive enough to get close to the podium, which has to be my target this weekend," said Alonso in a team preview.

Technical director Bob Bell said the team will have some upgrades in the remaining races of the season, despite having shifted its focus to the 2010 car.

"We do have developments planned for some of the remaining races and they will come along in due course," said Bell. "There's nothing major but they are sensible upgrades that are already in the production process. Our main development focus is now completely on the R30 and getting ready for 2010."

Alonso's team-mate Romain Grosjean admitted he is hoping to fight for his first Formula 1 points after a disappointing race in Italy.

"My aim is to put together a strong weekend to maximise practice, qualifying and the race. I will try and get close to Fernando in qualifying and hopefully race for some points," the Frenchman said.
