Servia wants 2010 title chance
Oriol Servia believes he can fight for the IndyCar Series title if he can secure a full-season deal with Newman/Haas/Lanigan
The Spaniard ended a four-race stint with the team at Motegi today by taking fourth place behind team-mate Graham Rahal. Servia had been drafted in after Robert Doornbos left for HVM, but Alex Lloyd has taken the drive for the season finale at Homestead next month.
This was the second time that Newman/Haas had hired Servia as a substitute, as he had also deputised for Bruno Junqueira in the 2005 Champ Car season when the Brazilian was injured at Indianapolis.
Servia thanked NHLR for calling on him again, and urged the team to consider him for a full-time drive in 2010.
"I'm happy that the team gave me the opportunity," he said. "We had a good four races and definitely gained momentum, and I hope we can continue the momentum next year.
"I think we can be contenders for the championship if we start together from day one. That's what I really hope will happen."
He was not too disappointed to miss out on a podium place when Rahal overtook him at the final restart.
"I'm extremely happy for the team to finish just behind Ganassi is very good," said Servia. "I'm very pleased, but obviously, I would have preferred to be on the podium but Graham had a run on me there at the end and he got the best out of it. I'm happy with the performance. I'm happy how things have gone.
