Durango to miss Portimao as well

Durango has announced that it will skip the GP2 Series finale at Portimao this weekend

The team had already been forced to sit out the Monza event due to the aftermath of Stefano Coletti's massive accident at Spa.

The Italian's regular car could not be repaired in time, so Durango intended to enter him in team-mate Nelson Panciatici's chassis instead, but Coletti was still in too much discomfort from the back and foot injuries suffered in Belgium so pulled out of the races.

Now Durango boss Ivone Pinton says the team has been unable to find suitably qualified drivers for the Algarve rounds so has opted to withdraw.

"Our trucks were already travelling to Portugal, but this race is not in conjunction with Formula 1, which made difficult to find drivers for the Portimao races," he explained.

"At this stage instead of persisting in seeking drivers, [who are] maybe not ready enough for such a commitment, we preferred to withdraw from the event. I am sure that at this stage this pause is the better solution for us all."

Durango began the season with race winner Davide Valsecchi as its main driver, and took a podium finish in Turkey, but the Italian moved across to the Addax team when Romain Grosjean was promoted to a Renault Formula 1 seat from Valencia.
