Will Davison dominates race two

Holden Racing Team's Will Davison made up for most of the disappointment of a DNF in race one with a dominant victory in race two of the QueenslandHouseandLand.com 300 at Queensland Raceway

With fresh sprint tyres, Davison took the lead before the end of lap one despite starting fifth and never came under serious threat throughout the race.

The only car that came even close to Davison was Team Vodafone's Craig Lowndes, who, like Davison, failed to finish race one and had fresh sprint tyres for race two and used them well, their DNFs in race one appearing to benefit their performances in race two.

Third was taken by Russell Ingall, just a couple of seconds behind Lowndes, who charged home in the closing laps on sprint tyres, moving from ninth to third in the final 22 laps.

Mark Winterbottom held on to fourth place, the best of the frontrunners from race one, though he immediately pulled off after taking the chequered flag having been leaking oil in the closing laps.

Less than two seconds behind him in fifth was Paul Dumbrell, who like Ingall used sprint tyres in the closing laps to vault up from 20th to 5th in the final 24 laps.

Michael Caruso, Steven Richards, James Courtney and Jason Bright did their best to maintain position, just surviving the charge of another driver on sprint tyres, Rick Kelly, Kelly moving from 21st to 10th in the last 23 laps.

After winning race one, race two was not so good for Jamie Whincup. A lock-up on lap one at turn three, a bump with Steven Richards soon after and a group of cars on sprint tyres passing him in the early laps meant that he did not have a good result, finishing 13th, one place ahead of Garth Tander who had a lap one off of his own.

The weekend's results has seen the title race become even more focused on the championship-leading duo of Jamie Whincup and Will Davison, Whincup extending his lead over Davison though not by as much as one may have expected, the margin now 183 points between them.

Third-placed Tander is 528 points behind Whincup, with Lowndes just one point behind him, and Steven Johnson and Mark Winterbottom have closed to within 150 points of Tander.
