Edwards frustrated by new engine rules

Tech 3 Yamaha rider Colin Edwards says that the need to preserve engines because of new regulations brought into force this weekend cost him a strong finish in the Czech Grand Prix

Each rider is allowed to use just seven engines for the rest of the season, starting from this weekend.

And the Texan complained of a lack of power after the race, in which he finished seventh, as it became necessary to dial back revs and protect his engine.

"It's very frustrating," Edwards told the BBC. "I don't like the new engine rule, me and James [Toseland] are last and second to last on speed. We can do the lap times, but we just can't race.

"I can't get close enough to anybody to even attempt to outbrake them.

"So they just come around you and they are like roadblocks just sitting there. Can't get enough grunt on the exit to get up alongside them.

"It's a huge problem at the moment because we got what we have got."

Edwards was frustrated at the result having spent the weekend in the top five on the lap time charts.

"We have been faster than the satellite Honda guys all year long but now they are 2-3k/mh faster than us so we have got some issues.

"Indianapolis has a long straight as well. The chassis and tyres are working incredible, as you could see from this weekend, but we can't race with the guys."
