Perera barred from feature race
DPR's Franck Perera will not be allowed to start today's GP2 feature race at the Hungaroring after stewards declared him responsible for yesterday's collision with Romain Grosjean in qualifying
The crash took place at the start of the session before either driver had posted a flying lap, meaning that both were left more than 107 percent shy of Lucas di Grassi's eventual pole time.
Grosjean has been granted special dispensation to start and will line up at the rear of the grid, while Perera has been parked for today but can join tomorrow's sprint race, also from the back of the field.
According to Perera, the accident was caused when he slowed to allow Grosjean past, only for the Barwa Addax driver to move across too early to take the racing line for Turn 10 and hit the DPR car.
"I was trying to let him past and he was just too close to me," Perera told AUTOSPORT. "I don't know if he turned the steering in on me, but he came across and hit my tyres. It's not intelligent, you know, because you are on the first lap of qualifying - if you see someone slow down, you don't need to go that close. Not on the first lap."
The stewards disagreed, and the Frenchman was declared to be guilty of impeding his compatriot.
