Red Bull insists drivers free to race

Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel have been told that they will remain free to race each other for the foreseeable future, despite their increasingly tight contest to close down on world championship leader Jenson Button

With the Red Bull Racing duo having been evenly matched this year, Button has expressed some relief that his mains rivals are taking points off each other.

However, Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has made it clear that there will no move to impose any team orders until one of his men is actually out of the title hunt.

"We will continue to support both drivers equally," said Horner on Friday. "There's only a point and a half between them, so obviously they are both in contention for the drivers' championship.

"There's a long way to go to catch up with Jenson Button. If and when we reach a point where there is a significant gap, or it becomes mathematically impossible for one of them to challenge for the championship, then they are both team players and one of them will play a supporting role should it be required.

"Our intention is to see both of them catch the lead Brawn as quickly as possible."

With both Webber and Vettel having won races this season, Horner is in no doubts about the quality of the men he has behind the wheel of his cars.

"Our drivers are both at the top of their game at different stages in their career and they are pushing one another very hard," he said.

"I think we've got the best driver line-up in F1 at the moment...both men are being treated with total fairness within the team and are supplied with identical equipment."

With the Silverstone update to the RB5 having made the car F1's current pace-setter, the team has put itself back in the hunt for the championship.

And Horner has warned Brawn GP that he does not think his outfit has any weak points as it embarks on the second half of the campaign.

"You can always do better," he said. "Putting aside our performance and two dominant one-two finishes in the last two races, the team's determination to continue to improve and not to take anything for granted is very important.

"There are no obvious weaknesses in our armoury, but as a group we must continue to push ourselves in all areas all the time."
