BMW to speed up developments

BMW Sauber is to speed up its development programme following another disappointing pair of results at the British Grand Prix

Drivers Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld could only manage 13th and 15th places at Silverstone, last year's constructors championship runner-up enduring its fifth point-less race of the season.

BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said: "Overall this weekend was disappointing for our team and we will speed up our development programme. For us, this race reflects the performance we showed in qualifying."

Kubica admitted that he had made a mistake in starting the race on the prime tyres and with a high fuel load, as it prevented him from getting his tyres up to temperature quickly enough at the start.

Heidfeld though, was slowed by damage to his front wing sustained on the opening lap of the race when he hit a rival's car.

"I risked a lot at the start by going for a small gap," said the German. "I damaged my front wing, but I was happy it wasn't worse than that.

"Of course, it significantly affected the aerodynamics, but we decided to wait until the scheduled pitstop so not to lose even more time."
