Davidson eager to return to Le Mans

The former grand prix driver enjoyed his first experience of the event in a prototype - and his first appearance at Le Mans since his debut in 2003 when he retired a Ferrari 550 - and he's now keen to return to Le Mans every year.

"I said after 2003 that I'd always come back and now I always want to come back," Davidson told AUTOSPORT. "Now I want to win it."

"This year was a step better than my last effort here! And it's only going to improve. I reckon and I've enjoyed it 90 per cent more than last time I did it. I don't know why, I think it's something to do with the car. It's fantastic to drive. Every time I drove the car it was fine so I didn't have any problems. It was a brilliant race. I'm knackered now but I loved every moment in the car."

Davidson was disappointed not to finish higher after a gearbox problem cost the #008 car significant time and restricted it to a 13th place finish, and believes his car could have fought the #1 Audi for the final podium spot had it run trouble-free.

"I'm obviously gutted for our own car's reliability, but really pleased for the team as a whole. It's an amazing job - to think that it was only really given the green light in December and we've come here and got P4.

"And what could have possibly been, I know there's always a should have, would have, could have story from Le Mans, but in our car I think we had the genuine pace to really challenge that Audi for the last step on the podium.

"It's exactly what I said, if it had run like clockwork we'd have really challenged to be on the podium and that's unbelievable."
