Briscoe frustrated to lose race

Castroneves pulled out of the pits ahead of Briscoe on the final stop on Saturday night and went on to win, leading a one-two sweep by Team Penske.

Briscoe had led for 160 laps - and his advantage had been as large as eight seconds at one stage - but he could not get back past Castroneves in the final stint.

"We did the best we could, but I just didn't have enough for Helio in the final stages," Briscoe said.

"The last 20 laps were some of the most frustrating I've ever driven. I led the whole race and had the quickest car out there, but I just couldn't pass Helio."

Castroneves was trailing Briscoe heading into the final round of pitstops on the 175th lap of the 228-lap race, but he used the #1 pit stall - which was his by virtue of the fact that his #3 entry leads the car owners' points when his and Will Power's results in it are combined - to his advantage.

"We knew we had good cars, so I told the team that we had to finish one-two in this race," Castroneves said. "When you have cars like this, you have to execute.

"In the race, Ryan got very comfortable in his car and just took off. We were saving fuel and figuring out our car. Later on, these guys were incredible."

Castroneves has now won at TMS three times, tying fellow Penske Racing driver Sam Hornish Jr for the most IndyCar wins at Texas, and giving Team Penske five wins at the track. The victory was Castroneves' second in three races this season.

Briscoe's second consecutive runner-up finish at least gave him the IndyCar Series points lead after six of 16 races this season, three points ahead of third place finisher and reigning champion Scott Dixon.
