Domenicali wants further progress

Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali thinks his team must keep pushing to make another step forward in the Turkish Grand Prix, despite its encouraging progress in recent weeks

The Maranello-based outfit has made huge strides in its form since an update package was introduced at the Spanish Grand Prix, and it secured a front row start and podium finish in Monaco on Sunday.

And although delighted with what has happened on track, Domenicali thinks the team must keep up its efforts in the next fortnight to make even more progress at Istanbul.

"What we have seen in Spain is confirmed here, it shows that what we were doing there is going in the right direction," he explained. "We still stay focused on our job, focused on the fact that in Turkey we need to improve again because at least now we can see we are a little bit closer to the other cars that were in front of us.

"It is a good sign and a good motivation for all the people who started not really well the season."

Domenicali believes the F60 is still lacking in downforce compared to the pace-setting Brawn car.

"I think for sure downforce is the most important thing that we have to recover," he explained. "This will help a lot in high speed corners, but generally this is the biggest problem we need to attack.

"I am sure in Turkey we will see that we have made a step forward in this direction, even if I would say we are pretty sure that our competitors will not stay with the same spec so they will do a step again. This is racing and this is what we love of racing - the others challenge you, you try to react, and it is the first who can recover."

When asked if he believed that Ferrari had passed Red Bull Racing in pace terms to have become the second best team, Domenicali said: "In Monaco for sure - third and fourth!

"I don't know. I think they are very strong; they had a couple of problems here. But you know me - we don't underestimate anyone. We know they did a good job in the beginning. For the future, for sure we have closed the gap and during this weekend it seems that we were good."
