Bird tops first Hockenheim practice
Sam Bird set the quickest time in the first Formula 3 Euro Series practice session of the season at Hockenheim on Friday
The Briton was at the top of the timesheet when it began to rain half way through the session and no improvements were made to the front running times thereafter.
Signature duo Mika Maki and Jean-Karl Vernay finished up second and third fastest, ahead of Mucke Motorsport's Marco Wittman and Carlin Motorsport's Brendon Hartley.
Euro Series debutant Atte Mustonen continued his and F3 newcomer Motopark Academy's impressive pace with the sixth quickest time, ahead of fellow championship newcomer Roberto Merhi's Manor Motorsport car.
Christian Vietoris (Mucke), Tiago Geronimi (Signature) and Stefano Coletti (Prema) completed the top 10, with title favourite Jules Bianchi only 11th quickest in the highest-placed of ART Grand Prix's four cars.
