Renault fits interim diffuser for Alonso

Renault has become the latest team to move towards introducing a double-decker diffuser, after fitting an interim version of the concept to Fernando Alonso's car in China on Saturday morning

With the FIA's International Court of Appeal having ruled earlier in the week that the diffuser designs used by Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota were legal, Renault flew its first update version to Shanghai.

Mechanics at the team worked into the early hours of Saturday morning to get the modification fitted to Alonso's car. It means the team now joins McLaren in having modified its car in China in the wake of the FIA ruling.

The Renault update comes with the team having decided to abandon its Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) for the rest of the Chinese GP weekend.

The French car manufacturer split its KERS programme yesterday to run comparison tests - with Alonso running without it. Following analysis of the data, the team has decided not to fit the device to either car.
