Wilson could get Dale Coyne lifeline

Dale Coyne Racing are working on a deal to keep Justin Wilson in the IndyCar Series after the Briton lost his Newman/Haas/Lanigan drive

Despite winning at Detroit last year, Wilson had to be released by Newman/Haas/Lanigan as they struggled to find sponsorship for 2009. According to American website speedtv.com, he could now follow in the footsteps of Cristiano da Matta and Bruno Junqueira by turning to Coyne's small team.

Although Coyne have never won a Champ Car or IndyCar race, they have regularly achieved impressive results against the odds and on a low budget.

But team owner Dale Coyne is aiming to take a major step forward this year having recruited former Ganassi engineer Bill Pappas, and is now eyeing Wilson as well.

"Bill is a great fit for this team and obviously Justin is one of the best drivers out there so we're going after it," Coyne told speedtv.com.

Wilson added: "I haven't signed a contract yet and we're still working on some things but it's looking good. I met Bill yesterday and Dale seems very intent on being competitive so I intend to make the most of it."

Coyne's 2008 driver Junqueira is also in contention should the team find funding for two cars. Junqueira's previous teammate Mario Moraes has moved to KV Racing.
