Wilson rues 'cautious' approach
Stobart driver Matthew Wilson said his cautious approach on the final morning of Rally Norway cost him the chance to beat 2003 World Rally Champion Petter Solberg
Wilson ended the event just 10 seconds behind Solberg's Citroen, but had run ahead of him in sixth place on Saturday afternoon.
"I was a bit too cautious on Sunday morning," said Wilson, "well, maybe not cautious. There was more speed in there. I was happy enough with the way we ran through the stages, but we could - and should - have gone a bit quicker. Maybe we could have had him then."
Wilson pointed to a pre-event test as part of the reason for his improved speed on the second round of this year's WRC.
"I did 120km on the Monday before the event and that made a real difference," he said. "We haven't changed a thing on the car, whereas when we come to the event without a test, we spend the first day changing the set-up, which costs us time, and then we're playing catch-up from Saturday morning.
"This time, we were in the middle of the fight from the start. And the good thing for me is there's more to come from me and the car. I realise more testing costs more money, but it's also giving me more confidence."
Wilson finished second of the three Stobart cars in Norway, behind Henning Solberg, but outpaced former Suzuki factory Junior WRC driver, Urmo Aava.
