Turner sure he will adapt to LMP1

Darren Turner is confident that he will swiftly adapt to LMP1 as he steps up to sportscar racing's top class with Aston Martin

The Briton has twice won the GT1 class at Le Mans with Aston Martin's factory team, and has been announced as part of the line-up for their new prototype project.

"The challenge of racing an LMP1 car is something I am really looking forward to," Turner said. "My prototype experience is limited to 50 laps around Paul Ricard in the Audi R8 a few years ago but I saw how quickly Tomas (Enge) adapted from GT1 to LMP1 last year so I know I can do it."

Turner will contest the full Le Mans Series with Aston as well as the 24 Hours. He shares team boss David Richards's optimism about the new car.

"As David Richards has said, an outright Le Mans victory in 2009 would be a dream result," said Turner. "Mind you, he also said that anything can happen at Le Mans and he's absolutely right. I think we will go out there and do what we always do and that is to compete at the highest level and push for P1."

Turner added that he had been proud to be part of the GT1 DBR9 programme that had brought Aston part to top-level sportscar racing.

"The last four years at Le Mans with Aston Martin have been an amazing experience for me as a British driver," he said. "It was a privilege to drive the DBR9; it is a special car and I have many great memories of it.

"To get the opportunity to go out there now and race with Aston Martin for the outright victory is phenomenal."
