Brundle latest to sign up for F2

Alex Brundle, the 18-year-old son of former grand prix driver and BBC commentator Martin, has entered the Formula 2 Championship for 2009

The Briton, the eighth driver to commit to the MotorSport Vision-run series, graduates from Formula Palmer Audi where he finished sixth overall in 2008, having scored three podiums in his second year in the category.

Brundle faces tough opposition in F2 next year with Julien Jousse, Robert Wickens and Sebastian Hohenthal all signed up to compete in the revived series. But he remains confident that he has made the right choice by signing up to the 16-round European-based championship, which will use cars designed and built by Williams.

"Formula Two is the right choice for my career," he said. "Driving a car designed by a Formula One team is fantastic.

"I have experienced the way in which MotorSport Vision runs a championship, and I trust MSV to run a professional and fair operation so I can show my full potential. The level of competition will be huge but I see that as an opportunity not a threat. I just can't wait to get in the car!"

Martin Brundle, who never raced in Formula 2 but jumped straight from F3 to F1 when he was climbing the motorsport ladder, added: "F2 cars will be fast, competitive, strong, equal, high profile and good value.

"This ticks many boxes for parents and sponsors and the direct F1 link is important too."
