Ireland join Race of Champions
Ireland will field a team in the Race of Champions for the first time this year, with A1GP series leader Adam Carroll leading their line-up
Carroll, who represents Team Ireland in A1GP, will be joined by Irish rally driver Gareth MacHale for the event at Wembley Stadium on December 14.
"I'm really looking forward to competing in the Race of Champions," said Carroll. "It will be great fun and also really interesting to drive so many types of vehicles against such an impressive line-up of competitors.
"It's a unique opportunity to perform in such a famous venue as the new Wembley Stadium and to give motorsport fans a lot of entertainment over the course of one day. From a driving point of view, I'm particularly looking forward to driving the World Rally Car and the buggies."
MacHale added: "I'm looking forward to representing my country and Irish rallying, and support for myself and Adam should be great as I know a large number of Irish motorsport fans travel to the event every year."
Race of Champions organiser Fredrik Johnsson is pleased to have Ireland in the event following the support from the nation in previous years.
"We had more than 700 fans travel over to Paris from Ireland when the event was at the Stade de France, that's why I am delighted to announce the first team to represent Ireland in the Race of Champions," he said.
"Ireland has a very rich heritage in motorsport and the fans there, especially in rallying, are among the most enthusiastic and passionate in the world.
"They will have their work cut out as the new boys, but I'm certain they will rise to the challenge."
