Hamilton: Title success still not sunk in

Lewis Hamilton says that his world championship success in Brazil last weekend has still not sunk in, despite it being nearly a whole week since the season finale

The McLaren driver has had a busy schedule of appearances since winning the title at Interlagos, but he said that despite attending so many functions celebrating his success, he still hasn't come to terms with it.

"I don't think it's fully sunk in yet," he said at Mercedes-Benz's Stars & Cars event in Stuttgart on Saturday. "I just try to embrace it and be thankful for it.

"This week I've been trying to embrace the whole situation, because it really took so much out of me.

"I've not been going out much this year, keeping myself to myself, and it's all paid off. I'm just very proud of our achievement.

"I've won many championships in my career, and it's a similar feeling. It's a great feeling of success, satisfaction. You work all year for that moment."

When Hamilton appeared on stage at the Mercedes event in the morning, the final three laps of last week's Brazilian Grand Prix were played on the big screen in front of him.

"That was the first time I've watched it back," he said. "To be honest, I haven't wanted to see it because my heart was in my mouth enough at the time - so I knew what it was like.

"But it's still exciting to watch it again. I'm sure everyone was on the edge of their seats, the same as me in the car."
