Edwards to enter Race of Champions
NASCAR Sprint Cup front runner Carl Edwards will make his debut in the Race of Champions this year
The American lies second to Jimmie Johnson in the Chase standings with three races remaining following his win at Atlanta on Sunday, and is also second in the Nationwide Series in defence of his title from last season.
This year will be his first appearance in the end of season event and the first time he will compete in any event in Europe.
"It's great to be able to represent the United States in England," said Edwards. "I've never been to Europe and I expect it will be spectacular.
"To race with the top drivers in the world is the opportunity of a lifetime. The goal is to bring back a trophy and it should be a lot of fun, I can't wait."
Reigning Sprint Cup champion Johnson took part in last year's Race of Champions and believes he will show well in the event.
"Carl has a great racing background which will allow him to adapt to the variety of cars he'll be driving and to the unique track," said Johnson. "It will be a tough challenge, but I know Carl will represent Team USA well and have a great time doing it."
Edwards will partner Travis Pastrana at Team USA in the Nations' Cup, with Pastrana returning to the event for the fourth consecutive year.
"It's an honour to be selected to represent Team USA again," he said. "I have a new teammate this year in Carl and I'm looking forward to improving what Jimmie and I were able to accomplish last year.
"Carl is extremely talented and brings a new perspective to the event, so we're expecting big things this year."
