FIA delays decision on WRC promoter
The FIA has postponed the appointment of a global promoter for the World Rally Championship until the start of next season
The identity of the promoter was widely expected to have been revealed at today's World Motor Sport Council meeting in Paris.
But a statement from the governing body said: "The FIA will invite tenders for the Commercial Rights to the FIA World Rally Championship from 2010. The tender will be published on 16 October 2008 and close on 15 November 2008.
"The winning tender will be announced at the start of Rally Ireland, the first round of the 2009 season," it added.
This latest announcement calls into question the long-term participation of Citroen and Ford, both of which wanted a resolution to the matter before the end of this year.
Ford's WRC plans are still unconfirmed for next year while the French manufacturer is currently only committed to the sport until the end of 2009.
North One Television, the firm which owns International Sportsworld Communicators - the current commercial rights owner of WRC - is believed to be the candidate most likely to take on the role of global promoter of the WRC.
