Ecclestone working to save summer break

Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone has promised to do what he can to get a summer break back into next year's calendar

As autosport.com revealed last month, teams have been pushing Ecclestone to open up a gap in the 2009 schedule so as to allow for a mid-season rest for their staff.

Without such a break, some teams have had to consider using a staff rotation scheme - which would only serve to increase costs.

Team managers were asked to come up with a solution about how best to open up the summer break, with the preferred option being to move around the dates of the German, Hungarian and Turkish Grands Prix.

Sources have told autosport.com that Ecclestone has told the teams he will find a solution that will make them happy - even though the final dates and how it is achieved has not yet been settled.

When asked by autosport.com in Singapore about whether or not the summer break would be back in 2009, Ecclestone said: "I am going to do something. We will do something. I don't know what I am going to do."

Ecclestone also stated that plans for the Indian Grand Prix may be put back for another year, with him preferring their first race to be in 2011 rather than the currently hoped-for 2010 slot.

"2011 is what I want," he said.
