Buemi realistic on chances at Toro Rosso

Sebastien Buemi says he is taking nothing for granted about his prospects of landing a race seat at Scuderia Toro Rosso next year, despite feeling he did a good job during his test for the team at Jerez in Spain this week

Buemi is believed to be Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko's preferred candidate as replacement for Sebastian Vettel next year - but still needs to prove his capabilities to team bosses Gerhard Berger and Franz Tost.

And although Tost told Swiss newspaper Le Matin today that Buemi would be a good signing for them if they could partner him with an experienced driver, Buemi is still not getting carried away with his chances of being given a race chance.

"I am a bit excited, but I try to stay calm," Buemi said about the talk regarding his future. "I did my best, but maybe I will test again before they take a decision. So I have to wait and see."

He added: "My objective is for sure to be in F1 next season. I was feeling a bit of pressure about that, which was normal, but now it is over. I did my job."

When asked if he felt he had done a good job, Buemi said: "I think maybe with the new tyres it could have been a bit better, because I could not manage the last bit of the tyres.

"I think maybe the final tenths could have been a bit better, but my feedback and long runs with old tyres were good, I think. I don't know when we will get a decision, but we will know for sure."

Toro Rosso also tested Takuma Sato this week and are still weighing up whether or not to retain Sebastien Bourdais for a second season.

Tost told Le Matin: "After what we noted this week, and in so far as we manage to find an experienced driver to race alongside him, I think we can take the risk of having Sebastien at Toro Rosso in 2009. You can consider than as an official declaration."
