FOTA set to hold first meeting at Monza

The new Formula One Teams' Association (FOTA) is set to hold its first official meeting at next weekend's Italian Grand Prix, providing sign-off is reached in Belgium about the structure of the new organisation

Ferrari have been putting together the Articles of Association for FOTA, after agreement to create the new body was reached during a meeting at Maranello in July.

It had originally been planned for Ferrari to get teams to sign off the documents in Valencia last month, but now it is more likely the paperwork will be finalised at Spa-Francorchamps to pave the way for FOTA to have its first official get-together at Monza.

When asked about the status of the body by autosport.com, BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen said: "I expect the Articles of Association to be signed during this weekend and we want to have our first FOTA meeting in Monza next week, so in my view it is progressing."

Technical figures within teams are already working away at coming up with a set of new rules for 2011 that will help reduce costs and make the sport more environmentally friendly.

And with the FIA pressing ahead with its plans to consider the teams' proposals in early October, Theissen has said that he is hopeful ideas supported by all outfits can be presented.

"We are already working on the cost issues and the FIA is included in that, so I don't know what the outcome will be," explained Theissen.

"The FIA people have joined (the discussion) and I hope it will be something constructive that gets the support of the FIA. It is my impression that all the teams are pushing to address the issue of costs and find proposals that really drive costs down.

"I don't think we will have something, fixed regulations, by October. But if we have a common view and common direction that can be finalised after that, it will be okay."
