Garcia wins second Superleague race

Sevilla FC's Borja Garcia bounced back from problems earlier in the weekend to win the second Superleague Formula race at Donington Park this afternoon

Garcia suffered gearbox problems in the first dry race, but that did allow him to start from row three in the appallingly wet second encounter, which included two safety car periods.

Polesitter Tuka Rocha (Flamengo) made the early running, chased by Nelson Philippe (Borussia Dortmund), Alessandro Pier Guidi (Galatasaray), Max Wissel's FC Basel machine, and Garcia.

Philippe was the first frontrunner to fall, spinning down to fifth at Coppice. Pier Guidi moved forward to challenge Rocha, but he then spun at the Craner Curves, striking the abandoned Rangers car of Ryan Dalziel.

Garcia moved past Wissel when the FC Basel entry ran wide at Fogartys, and immediately started closing on Rocha.

The Sevilla driver's job was made easier by a second safety car period - called to remove the cars of Pier Guidi and Dalziel - and he tracked the leader at the restart.

Garcia then dived past Rocha into Goddards and drove away at several seconds per lap.

Rocha drove a measured race to take second, while Philippe lost third in the final moments to the charging Liverpool car of Adrian Valles, up from row seven.

Race one winner Davide Rigon had a quiet outing, but picked up places as others made mistakes. He eventually came home sixth, behind Tottenham's Duncan Tappy, to give Chinese team Beijing Guoan the lead in the Superleague table as the series now heads to the Nurburgring.
