Edwards not worried by probation

Sprint Cup series title contender Carl Edwards says he is not worried about being put on probation by NASCAR following his on-track incident with Kyle Busch at Bristol last week

The Roush Fenway driver is eager to put the incident between him and Busch behind him as the championship moves into its final phase in two weeks.

Edwards says he just needs to keep his emotions under control and not let them get the better of him.

"All of that stuff doesn't matter," he said. "We're here to race and the racing has been pretty good. It's been real good, I think, and I've just been having a good time with it.

"I don't worry about being on probation. I just have to be a little extra careful not to let my emotions get the best of me, but it will be good practice, I think."

Edwards is standing by his actions at Bristol, saying he doesn't feel he did anything wrong as he chose to bump-and-pass points leader Busch after being unable to get by him for several laps as the race approached its end.

"I don't regret anything," said Edwards. "I did what I felt was best at the time and that's fine. In the grand scheme of things, looking back on it, I don't even think there was anything that bad about last week.

"I thought it was just real good, hard racing and what happened afterwards is stuff that happens at every short track all around the country every week. The only bad part about it is just tearing up racecars when you don't need to. That's the only bad part."

The reigning Nationwide champion says he doesn't expect his relationship with Busch to change because of the incident and believes they will still hold mutual respect for each other on the track.

"I feel like we really have been good competitors," said Edwards. "When he's won this year, I've congratulated him. When I've won, he's congratulated me, and that's why all this stuff this week, I kind of just got a chuckle out of it because I know deep down that what he says doesn't matter to me, and what I say doesn't really matter to him.

"What really matters is we race well on the track, so I'd say that we'll be fine."
