Truex set to stay at DEI in 2009

Martin Truex Jr is set to stay with Dale Earnhardt Inc in 2009 after the Sprint Cup team picked up an option on his services, which he finally agreed to

The 28-year-old had been rumoured to be moving on from the only team he has driven for since his Sprint Cup debut in 2004 but, according to several reports, Truex finally agreed to the conditions offered by his current squad to stay for another year.

Truex had been linked with drives at Penske Racing, Richard Childress Racing and Stewart Haas Racing, as he had publicly denied in the past few weeks that he had already committed to staying at DEI for another season.

His team had been trying to secure his services for a while until Truex finally committed to stay as the leading driver for the outfit in 2009.

Veteran Mark Martin, who shares driving duties of the team's No. 8 car with Aric Almirola, will leave to join Hendrick Motorsports for a full season in 2009 and a limited schedule in 2010. His move is said to have made Truex's signing for next year a top priority.

Truex has one win to his credit, claimed at Dover International Speedway last year. This season his best result has been a fifth place he claimed at Richmond, but a points penalty after a technical rule infringement at Daytona last month dropped him down in the standings and he currently lies 17th and well off the top twelve who make the Chase.

Last year Truex was one of those twelve drivers making the series' 'playoff' and he ranked 11th by the end of what was only his second full season in the Sprint Cup series, following back-to-back titles in the Nationwide Series with DEI also.
