Teams baffled by refuelling rig problems

Formula One teams admit they are baffled by the cause of the spate of refuelling rig problems during the Hungarian Grand Prix

Toro Rosso, Williams, Honda and Toyota all had issues with their refuelling rigs at the Hungaroring - with all but the latter suffering brief flash fires.

All of the teams are still investigating what caused the issues - with Toyota team chief John Howett suspecting that high temperatures as teams tried to fill up cars to the brim may have been a contributing factor.

"We have to really look at it," Howett told autosport.com. "We lost about five seconds and we think it is partly temperature.

"When you get these high temperatures you get a bit of pressure coming out of the tank. With the fuel we can't cool it that much and everyone was struggling -Toro Rosso, Honda and Williams had some issues.

"We do as much as we can, but sometimes it is temperamental. We can't adjust the rigs ourselves, they are standard piece of kit."

Honda Racing's Nick Fry said: "All we can identify so far is that the refuelling rig didn't go on exactly square, so it was as simple as that.

"There doesn't appear to be anything more than that and, as a result, we spilled about half a litre of fuel, which was quickly put out. Then we just used the other rig to fuel the car as normal, so no harm done by anyone.

"It will be interesting to know what happened on the other cars because it is unusual to have so many small fires. It might be coincidence but it does seem to be a bit coincidental."
