Heidfeld relaxed about his F1 future

Nick Heidfeld says he is relaxed about his future in Formula One after putting a mid-season dip in form behind him

The BMW Sauber driver had fallen to 19 points behind teammate Robert Kubica in the world championship following a series of poor qualifying performances, but his strong drives to second place at Silverstone and fourth at Hockenheim have boosted his confidence.

"I had some problems but we turned things around and I am quite happy with how it is going," he said today in Hungary.

"The backing I had during these weeks and months from the team was very good and that helped me, to know that they stand behind me. I worked hard with the engineers to overcome the problems and it worked."

Heidfeld admitted that he's surprised to be just seven points behind Kubica now and wants to be ahead of him by the end of the year.

"It does surprise me, and it makes me quite happy. It shows that in a phase where I struggled I was still able to take some points.

"Of course I want to beat my teammate, as everyone does, but the target is fourth place. I finished fifth last year with a car that was clearly worse than this year's, so I want to go one better. It will not be easy, but that is my target."
