Pedrosa decision not before tomorrow

Dani Pedrosa will remain in hospital in Barcelona until at least tomorrow while a decision is made on whether or not he can participate in this weekend's United States Grand Prix at Laguna Seca

The Repsol Honda rider crashed out of the lead of the German GP last weekend and hurt his left hand and right ankle after clouting a kerb and the crash barriers.

He checked himself into the USP Instituto Universitari Dexeus hospital on Barcelona on Sunday night for detailed examination by Dr. Xavier Mir and his medical team.

A statement issued by the hospital stated: "Dani Pedrosa has a general inflammation of the left hand with hematomas in the sheaths of both extending tendons.

"The rider shows a displaced fracture of the distal phalanx of the left pointing finger, which has been reduced. Furthermore, the patient presents a sprain of the proximal interphalaxical joint of the middle finger of the left hand, which has been totally immobilized.

"Finally, he has undergone a fixation of a fracture of the big bone of the left wrist by an arthroscopic technique. It is confirmed that the patient has suffered a lateral external sprain of the right ankle."

Doctors have decided to keep Pedrosa in hospital for further examination, with a decision due to be taken by the end of tomorrow about his participation at Laguna Seca this weekend.
