Rain hands Kyle Busch Chicago pole

For the fourth time this season, Sprint Cup qualifying was rained out, meaning Kyle Busch will lead the field on Saturday's LifeLock.com 400 at Chicagoland Speedway

Rain had already brought the first practice session of the weekend to a halt just a few minutes it was scheduled to end.

Officials tried to dry the track to start a delayed qualifying session but in the end NASCAR decided to call the day as the bad weather prevailed.

The grid has been set based on the owner standings, putting the No. 18 car of points' leader Kyle Busch on pole position for the fourth time this season, while Dale Earnhardt Jr will start alongside him on the front row of the grid.

Two cars will not make the field based on the owner standings and their qualifying attempts this season. Tony Raines and Johnny Sauter, whose cars have not been entered for every race, will leave the Sprint Cup garage tonight.

Greg Biffle had topped practice in the afternoon followed by Jimmie Johnson, Martin Truex Jr, Ryan Newman and Earnhardt Jr. However, not every driver had the chance to go for qualifying runs before the rain arrived in the dying minutes of the session.

There are two more practice sessions scheduled for Friday and the weather forecasts indicate there shouldn't be any rain, although there is a 40 percent chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms at night when the Nationwide Series race.

There's also a 50 per cent chance of rain for Saturday.
