Dixon fastest before rain stoppage
Scott Dixon moved back to the head of the speed charts in a truncated final practice session for the IRL IndyCar Series' Richmond round
Rain hit early in what was planned as a two-hour session, and although conditions improved and a fleet of safety vehicles took to the track in an attempt to dry the asphalt, the decision was taken to abandon practice.
Prior to the stoppage, Dixon had led the way for Ganassi with a lap in 16.2366 seconds.
Dreyer & Reinbold's Buddy Rice and HVM's EJ Viso had continued their strong form for their small teams to take second and fourth places, sandwiching Penske driver Ryan Briscoe.
Track officials are now working to dry the track in time for this evening's qualifying session, which is scheduled to start at 7.30pm local time.
