Lorenzo accepts blame for poor result

Jorge Lorenzo blamed both himself and his Michelin tyres for his poor qualifying performance at Donington Park

The Yamaha rider, who is returning to action this weekend after missing Catalunya due to a practice crash, said he failed to get the most out of the slippery conditions after ending the session only 17th of the 18 riders.

"I did what I could do with my mind conditions and with these surface conditions. I could do no more," Lorenzo told Italia1 television.

"In the morning I went very well because the track was very wet. I was always third, fourth and in the end I finished seventh, but this afternoon it got a bit drier: the Michelins wouldn't go as well, but also I didn't find the right pace."

Lorenzo said he would try not to put too much pressure on himself to recover in the race, and admitted that he had to understand the reason for his lack of pace before he could charge up the order.

"We aren't in the best position on the starting grid, but I need to stay calm," he said.

"Let's wait until we can go quick before thinking about overtaking anyone."
