H8: Gene at the front

Marc Gene leads by nearly a minute from Tom Kristensen at one-third distance in this year's Le Mans 24 Hours

Gene's No.7 Peugeot took over the lead of the race when Christian Klien spun the No.9 car into the gravel at the Ford chicane.

All three Peugeots have now led the race, with the No.8 car having made the early running before losing 20 minutes with a gearbox problem.

Gene's lead over Tom Kristensen's lead Audi is steady at around two minutes, with the No.2 R10 still in contention despite giving away a couple of seconds a lap on sheer pace.

Kristensen, Allan McNish, and Dindo Capello are taking quadruple stints in the No.2 car and have also been able to double stint the tyres so far to keep in touch.

Ricardo Zonta is trying to make up for the No.9 car's lost time in third place, but is still a lap behind Gene.

The battle for fourth place between the second and third Audis continues to rage, with Mike Rockenfeller keeping Frank Biela at bay after the latest round of pit stops.

Jos Verstappen continues to lead the LMP2 class in the Van Merksteijn Porsche RS Spyder, with 90 seconds in hand over the Team Essex car.

The Aston Martins have upped their pace in pursuit of the No.63 Corvette at the head of GT1. Antonio Garcia is now within 40 seconds of Johnny O'Connell and Andrea Piccini is working hard to bring the No.007 car back into contention, having set the car's fastest time of the race mid-way through the hour.

The Risi Competizione Ferrari remains at the front of the GT2 class and has stretched its lead over the Felbermayr Porsche to 45 seconds.

The AF Corse Ferrari dropped from third to seventh in class when Christian Montanari stopped the car at the Dunlop Curve and lost three laps before resuming.
