H6: Villeneuve leads under pressure
The No.7 Peugeot continued to lead this year's Le Mans 24 hours at the end of the sixth hour, but Jacques Villeneuve's lead was reduced significantly by a flying Franck Montagny
Villeneuve had a steady stint in the leading car, while Montagny set the No.9 Peugeot's fastest laps of the race as he passed the No.2 Audi and hunted down Villeneuve.
Tom Kristensen took over from Dindo Capello for his first stint of the race in the lead Audi, but the car that led earlier in the race has fallen more than a minute behind the leader.
The other two Audis remain as close as ever, with the No.3 car marginally ahead of the No.1 at the end of the hour.
The battle for top petrol car is still tight, with the No.5 ORECA Courage, the No.17 Pescarolo and the No.11 Dome all on the same lap.
The Essex Porsche now holds more than a minute over the other Porsche Spyder of the Van Merksteijn team in the LMP2 class, while the GT1 battle is still close.
Darren Turner extended the lead for the No.009 car during his first double stint, but the Corvettes started to bring the 30-second gap back down when David Brabham took over the leading car.
The American cars have now decided to stop double-stinting their tyres, as they feel that there is nothing to gain from trying to make a set of tyres last longer.
The No.82 Ferrari still leads GT2, but the No.77 Porsche - the only 911 still in the race - has kept the Risi Competizione car in touch with some impressive laptimes.
