Keselowski takes maiden victory

Brad Keselowski scored his maiden Nationwide Series win in the Federated Auto 300 at Nashville Superspeedway

The JR Motorsports driver ran a conservative fuel strategy in the final part of the race, pitting for fuel and taking four tyres during a late caution period, dropping down the order as others gambled on fuel by staying out.

Keselowski was able to make the most of his fresher rubber to charge back towards the front, arriving on the rear bumper of second-placed Clint Bowyer with thirteen laps remaining.

The caution flag came out with twelve laps to for a spinning Brad Teague, allowing leader David Reutimann to save fuel, as he had gambled on staying out when Keselowski and others pitted for the final time. However, Reutimann lost a healthy three-second lead over Bowyer.

On the final restart with eight laps to go Bowyer tapped the rear of Reutimann into turn four following the green flag, grabbing the lead of the race momentarily as three laps later Keselowski passed him on the inside of turn one and pulled away to take victory.

"I'm just lucky to be here and have such a good car," said Keselowski, who became the seventh driver to get his maiden Nationwide victory in fourteen races of NASCAR's second division at the mile-and-a-half concrete oval.

"David and Clint got together and just took advantage of it. I caught a break and took advantage of it. We had a little bit newer tyres and we could get by Clint there. Awesome car, awesome run, mistake-free day."

David Stremme came home in second place after running into the back of Bowyer's car on the last corner of the race. The contact also allowed Reutimann to go by the points' leader, who crossed the finish line in fourth place.

Pole-sitter Joey Logano had a disappointing day after starting first in just his second Nationwide Series race. The 18-year-old led early on but was caught in an incident later while running eighth, getting spun by Greg Biffle who was pushed by Kyle Busch.

The impact damaged the front end of Logano's Toyota, sending him to the garage for lengthy repairs that put him several laps down. He was classified 31st at the end of the race that he led for 64 laps.

Kyle Busch never seemed to have the pace to challenge for a victory on his second NASCAR race of the weekend, despite running a good portion of the race in the top-five in his Braun Racing Toyota.

After being involved in Logano's incident he was later forced to pit under green and dropped out of the lead lap, ending up a disappointing 20th and three laps down on the winner.

Keselowski's teammate, rookie Landon Cassill finished ninth and best among the rookies.

Clint Bowyer continues to lead the points but David Reutimann is now second ahead of Kyle Busch. Carl Edwards also slipped from third to fourth in the standing after finishing the race in a distant 13th place.
