Busch takes second in Truck race

Kyle Busch completed the first of three NASCAR races he will compete in during the weekend with a second place in the Craftsman Truck Series event at Texas Motor Speedway

Busch, who is attempting to take part in five different races at four tracks within four days this weekend, arrived in time from Pocono following Sprint Cup practice and qualifying to make the start of the race. JR Norris had practiced and qualified Busch's truck at Texas, putting it seventeenth in the 35-truck field.

Starting from the back of the grid due to the driver change, Busch broke into the top ten halfway through the race, despite not being completely happy with the handling of his truck.

He eventually got as high as second following the penultimate restart, on which he passed two cars.

Finally on a green-white-chequered finish, he tried to put leader Ron Hornaday under pressure but couldn't get a clear shot at him, eventually settling for second behind the three-time Truck Series champion.

"What a crap, piece of crap," said a disappointed Busch following the race. "We fixed it, made the most of it and got to give it to this team. They worked hard all day, I'm sure. They unloaded with a good baseline and JR did the best he could but man, it just wasn't for me here at the beginning.

"We worked on it, made so many adjustments to it all night. I'm glad that we made it home second.

"Congratulations to Hornaday. I just didn't get a good restart there and I couldn't get alongside him. Couldn't make a race of it. It's all we can do. Get on to Nashville tomorrow."

Scott Speed also made the trip from Pocono after taking pole for the ARCA race at the 2.5-mile tri-oval.

The Red Bull racer also started from the back of the field and later ran in the top ten before making contact with points leader Rick Crawford on the front-stretch, although he amazingly kept his truck from hitting the pitwall.

He was later involved in another incident that put him out of the race while battling for tenth place only five laps from the end, when he was left no room entering Turn 3 in a three-car battle.

Ron Hornaday's win, which was his first at Texas Motor Speedway, has moved the current Trucks champion to the lead of the championship.
