Lorenzo apologises to team for crash
Jorge Lorenzo has accepted full responsibility for the accident that took him out of the Italian Grand Prix
The factory Yamaha rider fell while battling for fifth with Andrea Dovizioso on lap seven. He managed to pass the JiR Scot Honda, only to slide into a low-side on the exit of the corner and fall into the gravel.
The crash meant that Lorenzo had to retire from a race for the first time in his MotoGP career, and dropped him 28 points his championship-leading teammate Valentino Rossi.
"I'm mentally broken because I didn't expect this crash," Lorenzo told Italia1 television. "It was my mistake and I want to apologise to the entire team."
The Spaniard has been racing with fractured ankles since a practice crash in China last month, although his physical condition was much improved in Italy.
He confirmed that he had not suffered any additional injuries in today's accident.
"Thankfully I'm fine," Lorenzo said.
"Let's hope for a better race next time. I wanted to get a good result but this isn't it, so this is no consolation."
