Berger tells Senna to focus on GP2 title
Scuderia Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger wants Bruno Senna to focus completely on winning the GP2 championship this year before he considers making the step up to Formula One
Senna's victory in Monaco last weekend prompted speculation that he could be set for the step up to F1 with Toro Rosso in 2009 - with Berger having close links with the Brazilian.
However, Berger has told this week's Autosport that Senna should not get distracted by his future F1 ambitions - and that it was more important he concentrated on GP2.
"I've told Bruno to go and win the championship," said Berger. "I think he has a good chance to be in the game, as he showed with his performance at a difficult place (in Monaco).
"There's no reason why he can't win the championship. He has a good car and he's a good driver. Now he needs to get everything together, win the title and then take the next step."
When asked if he planned to give Senna a test in the near future, Berger replied: "I don't think it's a question of a test, it's a question of how he can get to F1.
"He needs the right car, and we need to ask if he's the right guy for us. I don't want to start any speculation, but he has my full support."
Senna himself has admitted that he thinks talk of him stepping up to F1 is still too premature.
"One win does not make you ready for F1," he told Autosport. "I need a lot more results like this to win the championship, and that is my goal."
