Kovalainen: There's more to come from me

The Finn, joining the British squad from Renault, has been a good match for teammate Lewis Hamilton, although poor luck has hindered his chances of having more points.

Kovalainen crashed out of the Spanish Grand Prix through no fault of his own and was then hit by Kimi Raikkonen at the start in Turkey, where his team said he could have won the race.

The McLaren driver admits he has been surprised by how quickly he has adapted to his new team, but he warns there is still room for improvement.

"I am sure there is more to come, and I am improving more and more," Kovalainen told reporters ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix.

"It has been surprisingly good since the beginning of the season, but I think I can do better. I am sure I can do better. That is our target and that is what we are still working on, trying to improve the performance all the time."

The 26-year-old admitted he feels very comfortable at McLaren, something that has helped him get up to speed faster.

"I am very, very happy working here, and I know a lot more now than what I did at the beginning of the year - like how things operate, and how the race weekends go," he added.

"There will be more to come, that is for sure, but it is little by little. To be honest I was surprised over the winter how I got used to this car and used to this team - it is my type of environment here. I feel I have settled in here very well."

Kovalainen refused to dwell on the disappointment of the Turkish Grand Prix, where he failed to score after starting from the first row of the grid.

"I don't want to speculate on it any more," he said when asked about comments from his team that he could have won.

"Turkey has passed for me and I look forward to Monaco. I never ask myself the question, what might have happened? I don't think about it. Two hours after the race I was focusing on Monaco - it is the only way."
