Maki wins second Mugello race

Finn Mika Maki made it two wins in four starts in the Formula Three Euro Series with a dominant victory in today's second race at Mugello

The Mucke Motorsport driver made a flying start from third on the grid to cut between front row starters Dani Clos (Prema) and Yann Clairay (SG Formula) and lead by several car lengths into the first corner.

Maki established a two-second lead on the first lap and never looked seriously threatened by Clairay, who claimed his first F3 Euro Series podium finish with an impressive second, albeit almost seven seconds behind.

Mortara took a comfortable third to stay level on points with Maki at the top of the championship, while Jules Bianchi resisted pressure from ART Grand Prix teammate Nico Hulkenberg in the first half of the race to take fourth.

Hulkenberg, who won Saturday's first race, had to hold off the charging Manor Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes of Niall Breen in the closing stages. Breen had fought his way past Frank Mailleux, Clos and race one star Kodai Tsukakoshi during the race and claimed a well-earned point after just missing out on reverse grip pole position.

Tsukakoshi himself ended up pointless in third, with Sam Bird climbing to ninth ahead of Clos.

Prema's Renger van der Zande was unable to start from fourth on the grid because of a technical problem which meant he had to start from the pit lane. He finished 20th, one place behind Christian Vietoris who had stalled from third on the grid in Saturday's race.
