Kubica worried about BMW's starts

Robert Kubica has admitted he is 'scared' that BMW Sauber have not yet got on top of their poor starts, ahead of tomorrow's Spanish Grand Prix

The F1.08 has been slow at getaways so far this year, something which was highlighted in Bahrain when Kubica lost pole position off the start to eventual winner Felipe Massa.

Although the German car manufacturer have spent some of the time since Bahrain looking at the start systems, Kubica believes the team are still not totally comfortable with the situation.

"This is quite a big topic at the moment with our car," said Kubica when asked by autosport.com about his feelings on the team's starts. "I hope we will get better starts tomorrow, but to be honest I am a bit scared again."

Kubica said he believes the main problem was in managing the clutch positions during the start procedure, although was uncertain about how long it would take for the team to completely get on top of the matter.

"Of course the team are working and we know where there is the problem, but looking at today the starts we have done were not really consistent. So you never know what to expect."

Despite the concern about the starts, Kubica admitted to being delighted at the continued strong form of BMW Sauber.

"It looks like lately that we are very close to McLaren, and maybe staying in front of them by half a tenth,' he explained. 'When we don't get a proper lap or proper setup then maybe we are a bit slower. But I think we are fighting with them, and it is looking pretty okay."

Kubica also said he was not too worried about Fernando Alonso's strong form for Renault.

"I think overall, Barcelona is a track that gives smaller gaps than the other tracks due to the fact everyone knows it. Fernando did a good job but I think he is quite light."
