Super Aguri future rests on Honda meeting
Super Aguri's future in Formula One will rest on a deal being reached with investors and Japanese car manufacturer Honda in the next week, team principal Aguri Suzuki has said
While talks about a deal with Magma Group and potential investors Dubai International Capital (DIC) are ongoing, Suzuki admits that time is running out to get a suitable financial package in place.
Sources have told autosport.com that the team have been bankrolled by Honda to be allowed to compete in Barcelona this weekend, but such financial support is unlikely to be extended any further.
That means the team must find other revenue to continue, with Suzuki believing developments in the next week will be key to allowing them to carry on competing.
"It's very important in the next week," Suzuki told autosport.com in Barcelona. "I have a meeting with Honda next Wednesday and it's a key point to the future of our team.
"Now, we don't have any development of the car and this is very serious. Anyway, we try to find some solutions to help us continue."
Super Aguri have been unable to expand on the status of talks between Magma and DIC because team members have signed Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA).
"It's quite difficult to explain everything because I have an NDA between the investors and other parties," he said.
"Still we discuss with some investors and everybody said it's very difficult to run this weekend but it was no problem. But anyway we have to close the deal in the very near future."
