Toseland fights bout of bronchitis
Yamaha Tech 3's management is confident that James Toseland will be able to race competitively in the Spanish Grand Prix at Jerez on Sunday, despite the Briton suffering from a mild case of bronchitis during Friday's free practice
Toseland, 27, managed just 15 laps on his way to the eighth fastest time, nearly half a second slower than teammate Colin Edwards.
But Tech 3 manager Herve Poncheral told autosport.com that the reigning world champion may well have 'had his bad day today'.
"He is inhaling cortizone because he has bronchitis with some anti-biotics and he is not feeling well. At all," said Poncheral.
"I was surprised that he rode today. I had a quick dinner with him last night and I thought then that no-way he would ride today. I've been even more surprised with his speed today."
Poncheral still feels that it was wise that he rode today.
"He crashed this afternoon but that has nothing to do with his health. He was under no pressure, but the clinic said he will be better tomorrow and even better come Sunday."
Toseland complained on Friday that his breathing was so bad he felt it was difficult to ride the bike.
