Alguersuari grabs first win in race two

Jaime Alguersuari converted the second of his pole positions into a first British F3 victory at Oulton Park today

The Carlin Motorsport driver retired from the day's earlier race after being hit by teammate Brendon Hartley, but he bounced back to utterly dominate proceedings this afternoon.

He charged away at a rate of a second a lap and thought he had the race in the bag by mid-distance, but a safety car period brought things back to life when Nick Tandy wiped out the tyre wall at Hislop's, leaving debris in the chicane.

There was widespread confusion when the safety car was called but didn't appear to pick the field up as they began the next lap. Alguersuari backed up the pack but there was a waved green flag after the incident at Hislop's and several drivers got back to racing speed while most maintained their place in the queue.

Hartley leapt from fourth to first but then picked up the safety car at the start of the next lap. He led from the restart and won the race on the road, but he was given a penalty to drop him back to fourth place.

Alguersuari took the win, ahead of Fortec Motorsport teammates Marcus Ericsson and Sebastian Hohenthal.

Ericsson had started on the front row but lost out off the line to Esteban Guerrieri, who made a flying start from fifth to second. Ericsson piled the pressure on and regained the place when Guerrieri made a mistake and ran wide at Druids.

Hohenthal, meanwhile, charged through the field from eighth on the grid. He was fifth by the end of the first lap, took fourth from Hartley when he pounced down the inside into Old Hall, and was promoted to third by Guerrieri's error.
