Jaime Alguersuari clinched his second British F3 pole position of the day with a stunning lap of Oulton Park, two tenths of a second quicker than the time he set this morning.
The 17-year-old bettered Max Chilton's early benchmark time by half a second mid way through the session and nobody could challenge it in the closing minutes.
Marcus Ericsson improved on his disappointing eighth place in the morning session, to join Alguersuari on the front row. The Swede, who was quickest in testing at the Cheshire circuit yesterday, posted a 1:25.516 and was the only driver within half a second of Alguersuari.
"I'm a lot happier now than I was this morning," Ericsson told autosport.com. "We didn't have the best set-up in the first session but to be honest I wasn't driving well enough either.
"I knew there was much more to come and I wanted to do a good job in the second session to show that we're not just quick in testing. I'm really happy to be on the front row at my first F3 race and I'm looking forward to Monday now."
Walter Grubmuller secured his second third-placed grid spot of the day, ahead of Brendon Hartley in fourth, and Esteban Guerrieri the highest-placed Mygale in fifth.
Raikkonen Robertson Racing continued to struggle in the cold conditions with their four cars between seventh and 17th places. Oliver Turvey was another to have a poor afternoon and was only able to follow up his second place this morning with 14th this afternoon.
The session was brought to a premature end when Stefan Wilson went off exiting Old Hall with five minutes still to run.
