Newman/Haas to miss IndyCar test

Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing will not take part in the IRL IndyCar test for former Champ Car teams at Sebring today and tomorrow

The reigning Champ Car champions took delivery of their two IndyCars earlier this month, but say a shortage of spare parts will prevent them from running this week. Drivers Justin Wilson and Graham Rahal will have to wait until the open test at Homestead on March 24-25 for their first taste of the IndyCar.

"Obviously I'm disappointed not to be testing at Sebring," said Wilson. "I was looking forward to trying the Dallara for the first time and making some progress. But we won't be able to make it and I know the team will use the extra time before our first test wisely.

"They said right from the start that they won't put out a car that isn't up to their usual high standard of preparation and it's reassuring for me to know that I will have a reliable car when we do get out, especially given the commitment necessary for some of these high-speed tracks."

Newman/Haas/Lanigan general manager Brian Lisles added: "We just don't have all the parts necessary to be ready in time, despite the best efforts of Dallara and the IndyCar Series.

"It's a big disappointment and an enormous setback because we're losing valuable track time that will be difficult to recover."
