Britain ahead in Mexico practice 2

Team Great Britain's Oliver Jarvis topped the times in Friday's free practice session ahead of this weekend's A1GP round in Mexico City after a fierce battle with Switzerland's Neel Jani

Jarvis was fastest for most of the session, until Jani set a 1:21.482 lap to wrest the top spot away. Jarvis responded with 1:21.431, just 0.051 seconds ahead.

Jani's efforts to get back on top weren't helped when he locked up and almost went off at the tricky Turn 4, while Jarvis had a moment of his own when he ran wide on the exit of Turn 3, but escaped with a quick trip through the grass.

"I just pushed a bit too hard finding the limits of the car," said Jarvis. "I'm happy to be back, especially after I won here last year."

Team Ireland's Adam Carroll was third fastest, but 0.4 seconds in arrears of the pacesetters. Jeroen Bleekemolen was next up for Holland, ahead of Adrian Zaugg (South Africa), Jonny Reid (New Zealand) and Jonathan Summerton (USA).

The session had to be red flagged after just 11 minutes when Filip Salaquarda (Czech Republic) suffered a high-speed spin exiting the Esses onto the back straight.

He slid about 100 metres before lightly tapping the wall. Team chief John Village promised that the damage "will polish out with a bit of T-cut".

There was further drama with 12 minutes to go when Team Pakistan's Adam Khan briefly topped the charts, but his lap of 1:21.224 was obtained illegally after he cut the chicane.
