Sordo to rejoin but Galli is out

Citroen number two Dani Sordo will rejoin the Rally Mexico under Superally rules today, but Stobart Ford's Gigi Galli has been forced to withdraw from the event due to rollcage damage.

Both drivers broke their suspension on the opening day, with Sordo stopping in the opening stage and Galli having to retire during the afternoon.

The Italian had earlier run as high as third before losing time when he ran wide into a ditch. He was in eighth position when he damaged the Ford in SS4.

"It was the first corner and I came flat in third gear and the car slid too wide and we banged into a rock," Galli said.

"We tried to fix the problem on the stage but ended up losing too much time and had to retire.

"It was just so silly because everything was feeling good. It was so unlucky that we hit the rock because I felt like I was set up well for the fast left-hand corner."

Sordo was also mystified by his incident.

"I don't know what happened," he said. "I was keeping to the line made by previous competitors through a left-hand corner, but there must have been a rock because the wishbone broke.

"It's bitterly disappointing. Up to that point, we had found a good pace and our split times were looking good."

The Spaniard will rejoin in 25th place today.
